Toyota has unveiled a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle called the Mirai, which means “future” in Japanese.

Rather than using batteries, the Mirai uses a hydrogen fuel cell to generate electricity. The car is powered by an electric engine of 113 KW and has a maximum speed of 110 mph. The Mirai has a recharging time of three minutes, and it emits no carbon dioxide pollutants as it’s being driven.

Hydrogen power is seen as the ultimate clean fuel. Vehicles, like the Mirai, emit no exhaust, and fossil fuels are used in the production of hydrogen to pressurize it.

The Mirai will be available in Japan this December as well as in the U.S. and Europe in 2015. As hydrogen stations expand, Toyota hopes to boost production and sales.

Toyota is working towards remaking Camry’s image. Their newest ad campaign casts the re-engineered 2015 midsize sedan as a “bold” choice. This attributes to the car’s new, more daring style and underscores the message that a dependable car can also be fun to drive.

This message began with the “Camry Thrill Ride,” which featured a roller-coaster-style ride for non-Camry owners. It ended up lowering the age of Camry buyers from people in their lower 60s to age 45.

This is all in an effort to steer away from safe, cookie-cutter designs and focus on a bolder image. Toyota is known for their safe and dependable cars, so this new ad campaign is a way to differentiate themselves from the market and appeal to a younger demographic.

One way in which they have tried to appeal to a younger audience is by creating a six-episode YouTube series. They have brought in YouTube influencers who already have a broad following on the site and have invited them to take the Camry for a spin, experience different settings and videotape their trips and post it to their channels.

Camry has also partnered with Oprah Winfrey’s “The Life You Want Weekend” tour, which wraps up with an onstage segment called, “Toyota Standing O-vation.” This segment recognizes people who are “living bold lives.”
